Bajor Ágost, original name: Bayer Ágoston (Esztergom, September 17, 1892 – Esztergom, October 11, 1958) was a Hungarian painter and graphic artist.
Life and Career:
Born as the son of Károly Bayer, a blue dyer, and Gizella Schalkház, he completed his studies at the Hungarian Royal Academy of Fine Arts between 1910 and 1916, where his master was Viktor Olgyai. In 1920–21, he furthered his studies under Tivadar Zemplényi at the same institution. He undertook several study trips to Italy (1923, 1927). He taught for several years at the Benedictine Gymnasium in Esztergom before moving to Budapest in 1923, where his studio was located on Kelenhegyi Street. He was a member of the Ex-libris and Graphics Friends Circle. In the 1930s, he depicted religious themes and also created some frescoes on commission, although later these were whitewashed. In 1927, he had a collection exhibition at the National Salon. He was associated with the circle of friends of Mihály Babits. During World War II, he participated in combat on the Eastern Front. In 1947, he moved back to his hometown, and in 1954, he exhibited his works there.
Works:
He primarily painted naturalistic portraits and landscapes, as well as creating watercolors and etchings. His works can be found in the Budapest National Gallery, the Balassa Bálint Museum in Esztergom, and the Herman Ottó Museum in Miskolc.
